Janelle & Mike’s Calgary wedding was nothing short of beautiful, though not without its challenges. Their wedding proved to be the wettest day of the year (in an already incredibly wet summer), but thankfully we were all able to make the most of it! Their wedding photos still turned out beautiful, even if we did have to get a little creative with locations!
Janelle & Mike’s Love Story
Both Mike & Janelle met in high school and were friends for several years before reconnecting in university and soon their friendship blossomed into romance. After knowing each other for nearly 17 years, they decided to tie the knot in 2025. Friends to lovers is one of my favorite romance trope in novels, and you can definitely tell how much they care about each other and how at ease they are in each other’s presence.
Their Wedding
Janelle and Mike originally wanted to go more neutral for their color scheme, but Janelle admitted that after looking through my galleries, she loved how beautiful the colors were (which I have to give a shout out to film & my film emulsion editing! Nothing makes greens and blues look more gorgeous than Fuji 400 and Portra 800!) and decided to go for a more colorful summer theme to their wedding.
They decided to have their wedding at the beautiful Sundance Lake because of the gorgeous colors that reflect off the lake at sunset. But I was devastated when the day came and it was literally going to be raining all day. If y’all follow me on IG at all, you know that golden hour or sunset is my FAVORITE part of the day especially on a wedding day, and knowing that Janelle & Mike weren’t going to get those photos broke my heart. Luckily there was a tiny break from the rain towards the end of the day and we were able to sneak out to grab some photos of the two of them on the pier/marina by the water, but I realized we could definitely do this again if they were up for it!
Week After Golden Hour Session
So I chatted with them both and offered them a sunset/golden hour post wedding session a week later so they could have some photos of them with the sunset on the water. Both Janelle & Mike agreed, got back into their wedding attire, and the photos I was able to capture absolutely BLEW MY MIND.
So for any and all couples who book me as a wedding photographer, if by chance your day happens to fall on a rainy/gross day, I am happy to offer a supplementary golden hour session at your same venue location in your wedding garb so you can have beautiful photos of you and your sweetie at your wedding locale!
Congrats again Janelle & Mike! Thank you so much for having me as your wedding photographer and for being such good sports when the weather went sideways!
I legit wish I could relive that day over and over again 😉
