Hey there friends! Since the weather has been so wintry and magical, I thought I’d share one of my favorite winter weddings to date (and also, the coldest!). Nicole & Josh’s Mickelson Golf Course wedding is sure to inspire any couple who want that gorgeous snowy wedding without going too far outside of Calgary!
When Megan Sawchuk reached out to me about capturing Nicole & Josh’s winter wedding, I immediately said yes! Winter weddings are few and far between in the Great White North, and I wanted to experience the magic of a snowy wedding day. With Megan as their wedding planner, I knew it was going to be gorgeous and unique, and it truly was!
The Design
Nicole & Josh wanted a more modern, almost New Years vibe to their special day. With black, gold, silver and ivory as their colors, everything came together in a way that made you wanna dance the night away! Twinkle lights & disco balls were on every table as well as a cute neon sign at their head table. For a finishing touch, Nicole and Josh had ice cream a la Marble Slab Creamery to share beneath their ceremony bower.
Couples Portraits
If there’s one thing that’s a favorite of mine, it’s sunset portraits! And I knew that the combination of freshly fallen snow with the golden rays of sunshine would make a magical touch to each photo. The only problem was, it was friggin freezing! And I’m not just saying that! I think the coldest it got was -35, and I had no gloves. Actually, I did have gloves, but not gloves good enough for taking photos! After taking photos outside for about 10 minutes, we decided to head in and warm up for a bit. (Fun fact, I actually almost got frostbite! I couldn’t feel my pinky finger for a long time which worried me a bit, but hey–anything for the photos! 😂) Luckily, Josh had an extra pair of gloves, so once we felt our toes and fingers, we headed off outside again to take more photos!
And I’m over the moon with how they turned out!
Read on to see more from their gorgeous winter wedding. Huge shoutout to Megan Sawchuk & Mickelson Golf Course for making it a perfect day!
