A wedding trend that I’m thrilled to see more of are backyard weddings. There’s something so intimate and romantic about getting married at a place where so much family history melds together with your love story. And that’s exactly what Tessa & Chase’s backyard wedding outside of Calgary was.
Their Story & Wedding Day
Tessa & Chase met at the gym where Chase worked and Tessa worked out. Tessa noticed a super cute guy at the reception desk and approached him because one of the machines she was trying to use wasn’t working. According to Chase, there was a bit of “fumbling the ball” trying to answer her since he was smitten from the get go. After a few interactions, they started dating and the rest as they say, is history!
Funnily enough, Tessa & Chase got engaged on the rainiest day of the year and then go married on the wettest day of summer. It was definitely a full circle moment for the two of them, since a rainy wedding day is also good luck for a newly married couple! (Though for most brides and us photographers, it’s our worst fear!)
Tessa & Chase’s wedding day was a lovely blend of family, friends and nature. There was even a surprise wedding guest who just happened to be a female moose! Chase’s late mom also played an important role in their special day, as she passed away a few years before. Chase’s childhood home is full of imprints of his mother through her incredible murals, decorations and art.
It was a one of a kind, special celebration with simple, rustic elegance.

Truly Tessa & Chase’s love didn’t need anything over the top. Their day was exactly what their love story is all about–a focus on family, friends, nature & each other. Thank you so much Tessa & Chase for allowing me to capture your wedding!
